Lovely

A recent ride took me to downtown Philadelphia and Love park. What a great spot with a view down the Ben Franklin Parkway to the Art Museum. Love park brings back memories of taking the train down to the city in my teen years to skateboard at Love. There used to be a hundred skaters at the park in the summer in those days. Now of course it is against the law to skate there. Shame!

I'm Thinking Wood

I have been wanting to build a pump track in my backyard for about a year. This spring it is going to get done. After thinking dirt for most of the year I have recently taken a liking to wood pump tracks. I think there are pros and cons for each design but, for me the wood might be the best. Over the next few days I will be measuring and pricing the wood to see the cost difference. What do you think!? Click on the pics to make them bigger!

The Melt Begins!

A recent ride took me through Ambler Pa. and past some family history. My grandparents lived in one of the row homes in the picture. The snow melt has forced me to the road. The days of dry dirt seem like they will never come.

40 and Sunny

It seemed tropical compared to the weather we have been having. The feeling of the sun on my face was a good reason to ride for 3 hours. Amazing how a slight change in the temp can give a ride a completely different feel. A great ride!

More White

After another big storm there is more white stuff on the ground. We got about 15in. of new snow!! The riding has taken on a more fun and playful style over the past few weeks. Riding through all this snow should make riding on dry dirt seem really easy. If that day ever comes. I look forward to it!

Everything is White

The snow has been on the ground for a few weeks here in the Philadelphia area and I miss the brown dirt. Luckily the trails have been packed snow and fun to ride. The cold temps have kept the trails snow covered and fast. This week the temps will rise and melt all the snow, turning the trails to mud. Looks like the road bike will be coming back out! Andy, I think this is the weekend you get back on the bike! Charlie, get out there!!

Better Then Dirt

The trails in Valley Green were snow covered for several days witch lead to hardpack snow conditions. In the Philadelphia area the snow usually falls and then within a couple of days the temp rises and the snow starts to melt. When this happens the trails will either become muddy or freeze and get icy. Not this time! The temp were cold and have stayed cold. This ment the trails were in great condition. The heavy trail traffic in Valley Green matted the snow down to make a perfect 3 inch layer of snow. I was able to get traction with a 34x16 gear on the Rig. Some of the best riding I have done ever!!!!!!!

Two Rides on the Second

Luke and I went for a wet and muddy ride on the Wissahickon Watershed Trail. He took out his old bike that he has not ridden for some time. We had fun playing on the bikes. Later I was able to get out on the road for an hour and a half. Over toward Lansdale and back toward home for a quick loop.

Good Start to 2011

Got in a great ride with Phil. The weather was great for a road ride. We went out Cedar Hill road for a nice loop of 30ish miles. Later in the day it was off to new years dinner with the parents and Andy's family. Great food good times. The night cap was a drink with the wife. Good start!
